Tangley Oaks, Lake Bluff, IL
Tangley Oaks is a luxury housing development on the 200-acre, heavily wooded former estate of of Philip D. Armour III. The $75 million development, begun in 1980 and also in partnership with Amoco Realty, included 172 single-family homes and 84 townhomes, and is a good example of the James' build-to-the-land philosophy: The wooded nature of the landscape was largely preserved, much to the benefit of the homebuyers and the environment.

James has been very active in north suburban Glenview. One of their many projects is Glenlake Estates, 172 single-family and townhomes on 60 acres near Lake and Pfingsten.

In the late 1980's, James acted as development consultant for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in the development of Chasemoor of Burr Ridge, a 40-acre 192-residence community of townhomes, villas, and single-family homes in the western suburb.

This 74 unit complex was one of the finest 40 story condominium buildings to come on the market in 1972. These luxury condominiums, 2 per floor, set the standard for future condo development on Lake Shore Drive.
